Thieves are constantly inventing new tricks to fool car owners and gain easy access to their vehicles. One of the sneaky methods that has become increasingly known is the “coin-in-the-door-handle” trick. If you ever find a coin inserted into your car door handle, you should be extremely cautious—it could be a sign of an attempted theft.
How Does This Trick Work?
- The thief discreetly places a coin (or another small object) inside the passenger-side door handle while the car is parked.
- When you try to lock your car using the remote control, the locking system is blocked on that door because of the coin.
- You walk away thinking the car is securely locked, but in reality, one of the doors remains unlocked.
- The thief waits until you leave, then easily opens the unlocked door to steal valuables—or even the entire car.
Why Is This Method Dangerous?
- It’s simple and quick to set up.
- Most drivers do not double-check all doors after locking with the remote.
- It gives the thief direct access without breaking windows or forcing doors, making the theft almost invisible to bystanders.
