How to Widen Shoes That Are Too Tight
It’s a common experience: trying on shoes in a store and finding them too tight. The frustration peaks when we fall in love with a pair of shoes only to realize they’re uncomfortable. But don’t worry, there are tried and true methods to stretch tight shoes and make them more comfortable. Here are some effective grandmother’s tips to help you widen your shoes.
The Freezing Method
Certain shoes can be particularly painful. If your dream pair hurts your toes, this trick can help. Fill two freezer bags with a quarter of a liter of water each, seal them tightly, and place them in your shoes, pushing them into the toes. Leave them in the freezer overnight. As the water freezes, it will expand and stretch the shoes. The next day, remove the bags, dry the shoes with paper towels, and wear them to mold them to your feet. Repeat if necessary.
The Heat Trick
Heat can also effectively stretch shoes. Dampen the leather with warm water, then put on thick socks and wear your tight shoes for a few hours, wiggling your toes. For faster results, use a hairdryer to heat the shoes while wearing them.
